Laurens County Safe Housing Project
Overview of Programs
Both of our programs are designed to assist individuals and families with rental and utility assistance on a temporary basis. The program goal involves decreasing financial asssistance leading participant towards total financial independance by the completion of the program.
Minimum Criteria
- A victim of Domestic Violence
- Sleeping in an Emergency Shelter
- Sleeping in a place not meant for human habitation
- Staying in a hospital or an institution for up to 180 days, but literally homeless immediately prior to entry
- Graduating or timing out of transitional housing with no other options identified
- 30% or less Area Median Income (AMI)
- Currently homeless or in danger of losing rental housing
- Be able to pass a drug test
- Be able to sign own lease
- Be 18 years or older
Requirements while in the Program
Goal Setting
Participants will be required to set goals and meet thier goals while in the program. These may include:
- Finding/Retaining a job that pays sufficient in order to pay thier bills
- Increasing job skills by attending WIA classes, futhering education, etc.
- Increasing thier parenting skills
Life Skills Classes
Participants will be required to attend life skills classes during the program. These classes may include basic life skills, job preparation, and financial management.
Recertification
Project Coordinator will recertify participant every 90 days to make sure they still qualify for the program. This will involve:
- Conducting a walkthrough of the residence
- Obtaining documentation of income
- Assessing whether they are making progress on thier goals
- Determining if they are attending the required life skills and other offered classes
- Gauging thier ability to complete the program in the set time frame
There are a variety of services that will be available to the participants in our Safe Housing Project. These services include:
- Assistance with housing searches
- Support in setting goals and meeting them
- Crisis Counseling and Intervention
- Emotional Support
- Legal Advocacy
- Court Escort
- Case Management
- Referrals to agencies for appropriate services
- Crimnal Justice Information and Support
- Free individual counseling for victims and thier children
